Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was one of the first Roberts to move to Atlanta. Early on, her father began to take an interest in theater. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in diverse productions, both in and outside of campus. When he was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was commissioned into the Air Force in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was in that production as well. Both married in 2005 and had their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter was an undergraduate at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957, the couple quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University. In 1960, the family relocated into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning television program named Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed themselves. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou founded their own organization called the Actors and Writers Workshop. It ran for about six years. The couple had another two children: Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also known by the name Lisa), and Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known by the same name Julie).
