
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine, who is a laboratory technician and John Ormond. Ormond is the second of five children to her parents. The first time she performed in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. She later attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1988. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 drama Traffik. The show was about illicit heroin trade between the far East and the streets of Europe. Ormond played the heroin-addicted daughter of the main character she was a Home Office minister who was involved in battling heroin imports. This was her first film role and received glowing reviews.
